Notes:
Sonia Delaunay was born in Odessa, Russian in 1885, and studied in Russian and Germany before moving to Paris, France, where she co-founded the Orphism art movement which utilized geometric shapes and rich colours. She had many solo exhibitions of her work, including, in 1964, the first exhibition at the Louvre by a living female artist. In 1975 Delaunay was named an officer of the French Legion of Honour. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Musee National dâÀArt Moderne (Paris), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Tate Modern (London) and many others. Sonia Delaunay died in 1979 in Paris.
