Provenance:
From the collection of Regina artist David Thauberger.
Notes:
Ruth Meechan was born in 1914 in Glenavon, Saskatchewan. In 1940 she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, working as an illustrator and graphic artist. In the 1950s Meechan began working in clay, and in the 1960s, although non-indigenous, ventured into Indigenous design, used with permissions, as a tribute to original west coast art at a time with Indigenous west coast artists were not working in clay. Despite permissions, this practice is now viewed as cultural appropriation. Meechan was a member of the British Columbia Potters Guild, and was active in social justice movements around labour rights and women's issues. Ruth Meechan died in 2007.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
