Literature:
Millicent A. Perry, "The Armingtons of Paris and Toronto", Star Weekly, Toronto, 31 March 1928
Notes:
Although he was born in Canada, Armington made his reputation in France. He lived in Paris for thirty-five years, and his wife Caroline, also an artist, stated: "We feel that we can best represent Canada by staying where we are. Here we are not isolated as far as art is concerned and we can make more progress because of the artistic atmosphere. It is very nice for Canada to have pioneers but they do not sell enough to make a living." Armington was quite successful there, and by 1910 had exhibited his work in France, England, the United States and Canada. This lovely nude, quite possibly Caroline, with its light-filled pastel palette, shows the influence of the impressionists.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
