Notes:
Manievich was a Post-Impressionist landscape painter born in Mstislavl, Mogilev, Russia in 1883. After studying in Munich, he travelled Europe painting in a Fauvist style. Manievich emigrated to the United States in 1922 and settled in the Bronx, New York where he died in 1942.

While visiting Canada, Abraham Manievich was a frequent guest at the Montréal home of Mr. Oscar Faerman (grandfather of the present owner of this lot) in the 1930s where he painted regularly. The family indicates, "[...] meals were very lively with Manievich frequently creating amusing objects with pieces of bread to everyone's delight." Several other works were acquired from the artist including portraits of the Faerman family. In 1930, the Watson Gallery in Montréal and, in 1937, the Eaton's Gallery, held solo exhibitions of his paintings followed by another one-man show at the Merritt Gallery in Toronto in 1938.

Waddington's sold a landscape by Manievich from the same collection on June 16, 2016, Lot 354.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
