Zelda Faye Nelson was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1943, and grew up on a farm near Donovan, Saskatchewan. Nelson moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1971, and turned her attention to art making full-time in the 1990s. She moved to Canmore, Alberta in 1987 and her vibrant depictions of the mountain landscape received wide recognition. Zelda Nelson studied at the University of Calgary and the Banff Centre of Fine Arts. She was represented by the Avens Gallery (Canmore) and was a longtime member of the Canmore Art Guild and an associate of the Federation of Canadian Artist.
