Yvonne Bolduc was born in Baie St. Paul, Quebec, in 1905. She learned wood carving from her father, but was largely self taught as a painter. Her early paintings, and many later in her career, were on canvases handmade from burlap and using with paints she created with earth pigments and vegetable dyes. She also created carved wood reliefs. Yvonne Bolduc died in 1983 in Baie St. Paul, and is today considered one of Quebec's most important folk artists.
