ARTIST STATEMENT

When I am working on piece of art I hope to create a micro environment where for a moment the viewer can enjoy the richness of shapes colors and textures reflected in the work.

Vivid colors are spirited to me. The red in my paintings create a strong and active presence, complimenting all other colors. I love openness, the freedom for the image of a painting to transcend the boundaries of the picture plane. I insist on random forms. Swirls in particular speak to me as a way of fighting the mundane linear patterns of modern life.

In this piece I enjoyed fashioning the interplay of the flatness of the light grey against the rich red and texturized stronger greys fed by fluid and generous brush strokes. I would like the viewer to remember our planet is harmonious and full of life, of different shapes, its solidity is comparable to the weighty mesonite. The diversity of human shapes, rising from the solid earth, compares to the randomness of the colorful swirls resting on the firm mesonite.
