Provenance:
Includes a copy of 1981 receipt from Craddock and Barnard (London UK) stating that "The above are original artists' engravings over 100 years old". From the Gary Robertson Historical Print Collection (Regina). This piece is also in the collection of the British Museum (London) and National Museums Liverpool.
Notes:
Wenceslaus Hollar was born in 1607 in Prague, Czech Republic. He was an important etcher of portraits, architecture and landscapes, of his own drawings but also of other artists. He worked mainly in Germany before emigrating to England in 1636. He was exiled in Antwerp for eight years during the Cromwell Republic. He died in 1677 in London.
