Artist Statement:
Photography has the amazing ability present a reality to the viewer that only exists within the photograph. The material of glass has a relationship with light like no other substance, it penetrates, reflects, and passes through glass in an incredibly beautiful and unique manner.
Highlights involves photographing glass vessels to capture the unique material of glass in ways that the eye cannot see. Through the use of line, form, and composition I abstract the original shape of the vessel and create an image that can only be depicted through photography. By doing so, I strive to illustrate the unique properties of glass as a material as well as challenge the viewer's notions of what they are seeing and what a photograph is.
