The Canadian artist, Jean Ross Skoggard (1917-2003), studied Chinese painting with Mr. Wang Qingfang closely during her visit to Beijing in 1948. During this time, she and other visiting artists from around the globe met and studied with major painters of the 20th century China including Qi Baishi (1864-1957), Xu Beihong (1895-1953), Li Keran (1907-1989), and their fellow artists when they were teaching at the National Art School in Beiping (Guoli Beiping Yishu Zhuanke Xuexiao). The scroll features seal marks of renown 20th century Chinese artists and scholars including Li Keran (1907-1989), Lu Guangzhao (1914-2001), Xiao Yishan (1902-1978), and their students, and they were impressed during a gathering on Jean's visit in 1948. Wang Qingfang also mastered the art of seal carving, and is known for making countless seals for the renowned painter, Qi Baishi (1864-1957). Many of the impressed seals on the presented scroll are possibly carved by him.
