Walter May was a British topographical artist, but was also a member of the RCA, thus the inclusion of this fine work in the sale. While in the service of the Royal Navy, he served on two Arctic voyages, both in search of Sir John Franklin who had disappeared while on an expedition searching for the Northwest Passage.
