Thomas Ruff (B. 1958) is a photographer from Germany. Ruff uses various photographic techniques to display the extensiveness of his themes and subjects by employing digital and analogue exposures, computer generated imagery, photo from methodical archives, and images from internet and publications. In his works, Ruff often removes pictorial features, including perspective, horizon lines, and spatial depth, that reinforce the illusion that something essential about a person or thing has been captured. In JPEGs, Ruff successfully uses recognizable images of a forest and a cathedral, enlarged to a large format then stretched to become blurry to relay a very important message: that the emotional content of photography is in constant threat of disappearing. Ruff is is part of many collections worldwide including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and is currently represented by David Zwirner Gallery in New York.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
