Tadeusz Dominik est un peintre, dessinateur, graveur et professeur d’art polonais. Bien qu’il n’appartienne à aucun courant artistique précis, il est influencé par le kapisme (colorisme) et l’abstraction lyrique, partant du paysage pour exprimer « [son] expérience, [sa] perception sensorielle du monde ».

Dominik naît en 1928 à Szymanów, en Pologne, au sein d’une famille d’agriculteurs pauvre. Il étudie la peinture à l’Académie des beaux-arts de Varsovie de 1946 à 1951 et commence tout de suite à enseigner à son alma mater. Il gravira les échelons d’assistant jusqu’à professeur titulaire avant de prendre sa retraite en 1990. De plus, il agira comme doyen de la Faculté de peinture à deux reprises. Ayant remporté un prix pour jeune artiste l’année précédente, Dominik participe à la 28 e  Biennale de Venise en 1956, puis à la 4 e  Biennale de São Paulo en 1957, année où il a aussi droit à une première exposition individuelle au musée national des beaux-arts, la Zachęta Narodowa Galeria Sztuki. En 1958-1959, puis en 1961-1962, des bourses du gouvernement français et de la Fondation Ford lui permettent de séjourner à Paris et aux États-Unis respectivement.

Tout au long de sa carrière, il recevra plusieurs prix et distinctions en Pologne et à l’étranger. Il s’éteint à Varsovie en 2014, à 85 ans. Ses œuvres figurent aujourd’hui dans la collection du Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie (Musée national de Pologne à Varsovie), du Museum of Modern Art (New York), du Museum Albertina (Vienne), du Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) et du Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas (Venezuela), entre autres. Tadeusz Dominik was a Polish painter, draftsman, engraver, and art teacher. Although he never adhered to any particular art movement, he was influenced by kapism (colourism) and lyrical abstraction, and he painted landscapes to express, as he stated, "my experience, my sensual perception of the world."

Dominik was born in 1928 into a poor farming family in Szymanów, Poland. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1946 to 1951, after which he was immediately hired to teach there. He rose in the academic ranks from assistant to full professor, and twice served as dean of the Faculty of Painting, before retiring in 1990. After winning a prize as a young artist in 1955, Dominik took part in the 28th Venice Biennale the following year and the 4th Bienal de São Paulo in 1957, when he also had his first solo exhibition at the Zachęta Narodowa Galeria Sztuki, Warsaw’s national gallery of art. In 1958–59, and again in 1961–62, grants from the French government and the Ford Foundation allowed him to spend time in Paris and in the United States, respectively.

Throughout his career, Dominik received awards and distinctions in Poland and abroad. He died in Warsaw in 2014, at the age of 85. Today, his work is included in the collection of the Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie (Polish national museum in Warsaw), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Museum Albertina (Vienna), the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas (Venezuela), among others.
