Literature:
?Steven Rhude and Stuart Simpson, Field Trip, Halifax, Nova Scotia, 2007, pages 2–3 for another work from the Dories on the Line series (which is also featured on the publication’s cover).
Notes:
?In Field Trip, Stuart Simpson writes that, “in much of Steven’s work, he has mastered the concept of placing ordinary objects in extraordinary positions and situations, all in a very dry, serious manner”.

In 1990, the artist moved with his family from Scarborough, Ontario to the remote community of Fox Island, Nova Scotia and began to devote himself to his painting on a full-time basis. His new surroundings became a “primary source of subject matter and pride for the artist where the painter explores his passion for themes which evoke the ethos of coastal communities in Atlantic Canada, their social conditions and iconic character”.

According to Rhude, the Dories on the Line series marked a point in his career when social issues in Nova Scotia had reached a climax in the collapse of the cod fishery, an issue which Rhude deeply felt, as a member of a small Maritime community.

A copy of Field Trip, signed by the artist can be made available to the purchaser of this lot.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
