Provenance:
Private Collection, New Brunswick
Notes:
Untitled - Fredericton
This substantial painting by Stephen Scott depicts the broad city landscape of Fredericton, NB. The composition is dominated by an expansive sky, rendered in soft blues and warm ochres. Scott employs expressive brushwork and a muted palette in the foreground, depicting a sparsely lit setting - a few streetlights are seen blinking into life - that suggests the encroachment of dusk. The contrast between the luminous sky and the dark earthy tones of the landscape establishes a compelling visual tension and deeply atmospheric mood.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stephen Scott is a Fredericton-based Canadian contemporary artist known for his evocative landscapes and figurative works. Born in Saint John, he studied at the Ontario College of Art and Mount Allison University, later earning a Master’s in Art Therapy from Concordia. His work, rooted in traditional realism with expressionist influences, often depicts landscape and figural subjects. Scott has exhibited widely across Canada and Europe, spending time in Belgium, Sweden, and Germany; he continues to paint full-time in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
