STEPHEN OUTHOUSE (Nova Scotia, 1943-2018)

Maud and Everett

*Holding a painting after Maud Lewis

H: 5'3" (Everett)

H: 4'2" (Maud)

W: 3' (overall, approx)

Note these are two separate figures that fit together

Inscription to back of painting: Carved by Stephen L. Outhouse 1999

Everett was started in the spring 1997..

He was a spruce tree from the Maud and Everett home

Maud is a pine tree from North range Digby

Note: Mr. Outhouse knew the couple as a child, calling them Ev and Maudie. When the original Lewis house was taken to Halifax for restoration, a tree that Everett had planted on the property was cut down. Mr. Outhouse obtained the wood and carved a likeness of Everett. "He planted it, and now it's him," he said. (The Chronicle-Herald, 16/07/199)
