Notes:
Stephen Lyman was born in 1957 in Idaho, and spent his childhood in the Pacific Northwest. He studied at the Art Centre School of Design in Pasadena, California, and began his art career as a commercial illustrator in Los Angeles. He soon returned to Idaho to develop his own painting style and to explore the natural world. Stephen Lyman died in 1996 in a fall at a steep valley in Yosemite National Park. He was thirty-eight years old.
