SKNAC bio: Stan Otter is a First Nation Artist originally from La Ronge, Saskatchewan. In the early 1960s He excelled in art as a teen, and taught cartooning at the Nikinahk Friendship Centre (La Ronge). As a young man he studied with several important northern artists, like Jim Brady, Lloyd Pinay, Bob Boyer and Miles Hallkett, working in painting, sculpting and photography. Otter moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, in the late 1980s, and there completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Indian Arts and an Indian Communication Arts Certificate in 2006 at the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (now the First Nations University of Canada), which included studying printmaking with Saskatchewan artist Jack Cowin. He then worked with Sakewawak Artist Run Collective and began exhibiting his work throughout Western Canada, including the 5th Parallel Gallery (University of Regina) and the First Nations University of Canada. Stan Otter continues to live and work in Regina, Saskatchewan.
