Sitter is Eileen Marion Lavery, daughter of Sir John Lavery. This painting is connected to two other paintings. One is another study titled "Eileen on Horseback, Tangier (Study for The Amazon)", completed in 1910 and auctioned via James Adam & Bonhams in Dublin, Ireland, on December 5th, 2001 (Important Irish Art, Lot 95); and the other is "The Amazon", completed in 1911, and currently held in the collections of the National Museums Northern Ireland (BELUM.U570, C6066, C6067).
