Notes:
Simone Marie Bouchard lived in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, making hooked rugs as well as painting. Although without formal training, she was described as Quebec's greatest primitive painter by artist Alfred Pellan. A member of the Contemporary Arts Society in Montreal, she showed her genre scenes of community life in their exhibitions. This double-sided painting, both a vibrant still life and a charming study of rural life, is an outstanding example of folk art tradition.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
