Simeonee Qayaq (1920-1971)

Clyde River

Mighty Inuk Carrying a Polar Bear, ca. early 1970s, marbled green-grey stone, signed in syllabics and with disc no., 11 x 7.75 x 5.5 in, 28 x 19.7 x 14 cm

Simeonee Qayaq's skill and bravery as a hunter were almost legendary. There are eyewitnesses who have seen him lure a male polar from his den and kill him with a harpoon. It is possible that this sculpture actually commemorates the event.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
