Sam Ash is from Sioux Lookout and was born in 1951. Born Ojibwa, he was adopted by a Metis couple after his mother died during childbirth. He began painting at age 6 when he went to the Ontario School for the Deaf in Belleville. His work features bold dream-like designs and skillful application of paint. His paintings are held in collections across Canada, including the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull.
