Robert Indiana was born in New Castle, Indiana, in 1928. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago (1949-1953) and Edinburgh College of Art (1953-54). Upon returning to the United Stated in 1954 he settled in New York City. After quickly achieving renown in the emerging Pop Art genre, Indiana moved to Vinalhaven, Maine, where he lived until hid death in 2018 at the age of 89. Indiana work often involved complex intersections of language and graphics, including his iconic Love images. Robert Indiana's works can be found in many major collections including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), National Gallery of Art (Washington), Tate Modern (London) and the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto).
