Provenance:
Private Collection, Toronto.
Notes:
For more than 30 years, Ric Evans' work in geometric abstraction has brought together shape and colour in a rigorous, intellectual investigation of the potential of paint. He works with oil on both rectangular and irregularly contoured panels, creating a personal visual lexicon through paintings such as of The Salt Paintings (2001-03) and Kimono (1982). Commenting on his work, he states, "I like to think of the colour as being in the paintings not on the surface, like tattoos." Based in Toronto, Evans has exhibited extensively in solo shows and in the company of other formalist painters at galleries across Canada, in New York, Los Angeles, Germany and Australia. His work appears in the collections of the University of Queensland Art Museum in Brisbane, Australia as well as in significant Canadian public institutions such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
