Provenance:
From the Briercrest College Art Collection. 100% of the hammer price goes to the Briercrest College Scholarship Fund. This artwork has a 1998 certificate of appraisal with a fair market evaluation of $1200.
Notes:
Rene Marcil was born in Montreal in 1917 and died in Toronto in 1993 but spent most of his artistic life in the U.S., France and England. After work in the advertising departments of the stores Morgan and Eaton's he joined Lord and Taylor in New York where his fashion illustrations appeared often in the New York Times. In the 1950s he moved to France. His work can be found in private and public collections around the world.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
