Lot description - from the online catalogue*
Provenance:
Laing Galleries, Toronto
Private Collection, Port Hope
Notes:
Very little is known of the artist who was an American active in New England "circa" 1843. A note on the gallery label on the reverse suggests that these could be either Montagnais or Naskapi people. Their clothing suggests it appears more likely that they were MicMac people who inhabited the Maritimes and part of the Gaspé Peninsula.
