Provenance:
From the Gary Robertson Historical Print Collection (Regina). This piece can also be found in the collections of The Louvre (Paris), The Clark Museum (Williamstown, Massachusetts).
Notes:
Pierre-Philippe Choffard was born in Paris in 1730. As a youth he apprenticed with an engraver of maps, and then engraved invitations and bookplates before gaining a reputation which allowed him to complete larger works. Pierre-Philippe Choffard died in Paris in 1809.
