Actif sur la scène artistique du Québec et de Paris, Pierre Blanchette est un peintre prolifique surtout connu pour ses œuvres d’art public et ses tableaux abstraits grand format. Né à Trois-Rivières, il étudie à l’Université du Québec à Montréal et commence à exposer peu de temps après. Au début de sa carrière, il fait la connaissance de Marcelle Ferron au Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, rencontre qui s’avère profondément marquante. En effet, tout au long de son parcours, il restera fidèle à une combinaison de formes géométriques et lyriques. À la suite d’un voyage au Maroc en 1977, Blanchette introduit des formes triangulaires dans ses œuvres, dont un grand nombre circule au Canada dans le cadre d’expositions collectives.

L’artiste voyage beaucoup. En 1980, il effectue le premier d’une longue série de séjours à Paris. Là-bas, il s’associe à la Galerie Regards, avec laquelle il collaborera à des expositions individuelles et collectives pendant plus de 10 ans. À la fin des années 1980 et durant la décennie suivante, il connaît un grand succès à Paris avec les œuvres qu’il expose au Centre culturel canadien, au Grand Palais et au Musée d’art moderne, notamment. Au cours de cette période, il participe aussi à la Manif d’art, à Québec, et continue de bâtir sa réputation par l’intermédiaire de diverses galeries privées. En 2010, il reçoit la bourse de carrière Jean-Paul-Riopelle du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Aujourd’hui, Pierre Blanchette vit et travaille à Montréal.

A prolific fixture of the Québec and Parisian art scenes, Pierre Blanchette is known for his public commissions and large-scale abstract paintings. Born in Trois-Rivières, Blanchette studied visual arts at UQAM and began exhibiting widely shortly thereafter. An early encounter with Marcelle Ferron at the Banff Centre for the Arts had a profound impact on Blanchette’s trajectory, which has remained consistent in its combination of geometric and lyrical forms. In 1977, he made a trip to Morocco, after which he incorporated triangular shapes into his compositions—many of which circulated across Canada in group exhibitions.

Blanchette travelled frequently, and in 1980 he embarked on the first of what would be frequent stays in Paris. There, he developed a relationship with Galerie Regards, with which he collaborated on solo and group exhibitions for more than a decade. In the late 1980s and the 1990s, he experienced significant success in Paris with works included in shows at the Canadian Cultural Centre, the Grand Palais, and the Musée d’art moderne, among others. During this time, he also participated in the Québec biennial and continued to build his reputation with a diverse range of private galleries. In 2010, Blanchette was honoured with the Jean Paul Riopelle Career Award by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. He lives and works in Montréal.
