This print depicts a scene from Northwest Coast mythology of a great chief's son transforming into a raven and flying out of the smoke hole, thus bringing the sun to the world. Being sold on behalf of Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers Regina with 90% of the winning bid going to this Saskatchewan charity.
Notes:
Phil Janze was born in 1950 in Hazelton, British Columbia. He began working in metal in his early teens. He graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and was then invited to the jewellery program at Goldsmith's Hall, London, England. Janze worked in silkscreen printmaking, wood carving and jewellery making, and won many prizes across these mediums. In 2012 he received the British Columbia Creative Achievement Award in recognition of his creative contributions to BC culture.
