Peter Max was born in Berlin, Germany in 1937. His family emigrated to Shanghai, China in 1938 and then to Israel in 1948. The family eventually settled in New York City in 1953. He is best known for the use of bright colours in his work. A master of 'pop art', his work evokes the 'summer of love', and can be found on everything from handbags to cruise ships. His work remains in great demand and is widely collected internationally.
