PEESEE OSHUITOQ (OSHOWEETOK "A") (1913-1979)

CAPE DORSET, Caribou, ca. 1955

Ivory and colour

2.75 x 3.875 x 1 in, 7.0 x 9.8 x 2.5 cm

Provenance: Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto

A former camp leader, Peesee Oshuitoq was encouraged to carve by James Houston in the early 1950s; never prolific, he did however create some great work, both in stone and in ivory. This caribou is carved with great sensitivity and sense of movement.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
