From the Gary Robertson Historical Print Collection (Regina). This piece is also in the collection of the British Museum (London) and the Victoria and Albert Museum (London).
Notes:
Paulus Pontius was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1603. He apprenticed with the still life painter Osiers Beert and the engraver Lucas Vorsterman (best known as the engraver for Peter Paul Rubens). Pontius became Rubens' foremost engraver in 1624. Pontius' style is characterized by its precision and the accuracy with which it represents the original painting. Paulus Pontius died in 1658 in Antwerp.
