Goranson studied from 1932 to 1934 under F.H. Varley at the BC College of Art in Vancouver. He then joined with contemporaries Orville Fisher and E.J. Hughes and spent much of the 1930s producing large murals for commercial and government buildings. Tuele writes: "Goranson's etching, BC Purse Seiner[s], is typical of the kind of social realist art produced in their murals of the 1930s."
