NINGEEUGA OSHUITOQ (1918-1980)

CAPE DORSET, Untitled (Heart-shaped composition), ca. 1967

Coloured pencil and felt-tip pen drawing

19.75 x 26, 50.2 x 66 cm, signed in syllabics

Provenance: Purchased by Charles Gimpel. Exhibited at Gimpel Fils Gallery, London, England.

The wife of sculptor Peesee Oshuitoq (see Lots 71 and 73) Ningeeuga began drawing in 1965, after her return to Cape Dorset from a four-year stay in the Hamilton TB sanatorium. Semi-abstract closed designs, dominated by faces, are quite common in her art.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
