NANCY PUKINGRNAK AUPALUKTUQ BAKER LAKE

Inuit Story, 1984

Graphite and crayon drawing

22 x 30 in, 55.9 x 76.2 cm

Dated and signed in syllabics

In the typical manner of second-generation Baker Lake graphic artists Pukingrnak, Oonark's youngest daughter, goes to great lengths to illustrate and explain the meeting of Kiviuk and the fishmaker. Oonark herself explained the basic storyline (see Lot 45). Pukingrnak shows each of the two characters three times as their meeting unfolds. One interesting detail to note: the hole seen in the fishmaker's backside is a physical deformity; this opening connects directly to his mouth. However, since the fishmaker kills all who acknowledge it, Kiviuk is careful not to look at it or refer to it in any way.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
