Canadian, Puvirnituq (Povungnituk) [1924-1983]

-a black stone carving, in two pieces, of a Hunter Pulling a Seal out of a Seal Hole, signed "Mosesee" in syllabics and inscribed "833", the harpoon and rope made of bone and sinew

Hunter: 6.5 x 9.5 x 9 in. / Seal: 4.75 x 4.5 x 4 in.

Provenance: Acquired by the consignor while he was working as a diesel mechanic on the DEW Line (Bar 3, Tuktoyaktuk region), between 1957 and 1961.
