SKNAC bio: Melody Armstrong was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1965. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree majoring in Jewellery and Metals from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1999. Armstrong works with gold, silver, titanium, and stones, and incorporates paint into her work. She describes her style as 'Industrial-Organic', and writes, 'My jewellery is born through a diligent creative process of vision, design rendering, and then using my metalsmithing skills to form and manipulate the materials into my desired intention. My objective is to create intimate objects that offer a compelling reason for others to enter into the investigative realm. The scale of the jewellery is well suited for this pursuit, allowing me to build precious forms to draw one near, engendering intimate interactions.' As a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council, Armstrong's work has been recognized in numerous competitions including: Dimensions 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2019, and internationally in the Lewton-Brain Foldform International Competitions 2012, 2015 and 2018. Armstrong's work has been published internationally, including New Rings 500+ Designs From Around the World (Thames and Hudson, 2016) and Art Jewelry Today (Schiffer Books 2016). In 2016, Armstrong was awarded the ACAD Alumni Honour Award. Armstrong combines her studio practice with teaching, serving as Resident Artist and Jewellery Instructor at Regina's Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre for over a dozen years. Armstrong has been a member of several arts organizations, including the Saskatchewan Craft Council, the Metal Arts Guild of Canada, the Society of North American Goldsmiths, the Art Gallery of Regina, and Crafthaus.
