Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Provenance:
Acquired directly from the Artist by David & Patsy Heffel, 2016

Exhibitions:
Remington Gallery, Mess Age, April 22 - April 28, 2016
Notes:
An old woman gets paid to tear down a poster in Vancouver's downtown east side. The poster being torn is promoting S.F.U. contemporary art show. The wall the poster is on is the original Woddward's building.

Mel Yap captures the literal layers of history being torn away, while creating a subtle dialogue between viewer and subject.

This photo was a part of the exhibition "Mess Age", a response to a postcard Lincoln Clarks made in the mid 90s. Mel Yap's concept was to show how the layers of the image mimicked the transitioning neighbourhood, offering multiple messages within the context of one's perspective.

Consignor sale proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the David & Patsy Heffel Foundation (managed by Aqueduct Foundation, registered charity # 866087034RR0001).
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
