Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Provenance:
In the early 60s, the magazine BolaffiArte, a joint venture between the Italian magazine publisher Bolaffi and the publisher Giorgio Mondadori originated the idea of having prominent artists design the cover of each edition. A hundred or more painters and sculptors from different schools all over the world participated. From de Chirico to Warhol, from Mirò to Schifano, from Marini to Moore and many others, in styles including figurative, informal, abstract, conceptual or pop created a piece that the publisher used for the magazine and that Bolaffi assembled in a unique and unrepeatable print, signed and numbered. The artists were typically asked to interpret a specific annual theme (the zodiac, the alphabet, the 7 deadly sins, etc.). Along with the cover design, Bolaffiarte also produced a limited edition print that was made available to the public.
Notes:
Max Bill apprenticed as a silversmith, and studied at the Bauhaus (Dessau) from 1927 to 1929, where his teachers included Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. His interpretations of 'constructionism' integrated the study of geometry and mathematics into his art. Among many others, his work is found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
