Malaya Akulukjuk was the Jessie Oonark of Pangnirtung. She produced many hundreds of drawings, with thirty-five turned into prints. Moreover, her images completed dominated the tapestry weaving program during her lifetime. She was a strong-willed woman who loved to hunt, and was reputed to be a shaman. While many of her images represent various aspects of the spirit world, she also created designs for a number of beautiful large landscapes for the weaving studio in the last ten years of her life. Another copy of this tapestry is displayed in the halls of the House of Commons in Canada's Parliament Buildings.
