Notes:
Born in Oka, Québec, Madeleine Lemire now lives and works in the Eastern Townships. She studied at l’Ecole du Louvre in Paris, the Montreal School of Fine Arts, the Academy of Arts and the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in Montreal. Lemire enjoys an international reputation for her bold semi-abstract landscapes and florals. The lyrical and flowing movement in a Lemire canvas has been compared to poetry in which the words are conveyed through the painter’s use of colour and radiant light. Her impressive academic record is but one side of her persona. Lemire’s love of life and appreciation of landscapes, nature and people is expressed in the joyful nature of all her work. She continues to broaden and explore her artistic and general knowledge through travel. She has lived in Sweden, Japan, Tunisia, Venezuela and now spends part of each year enjoying life painting in the south of France. In 1996, Madeleine Lemire was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
