LUKE HALLAUK (1931-1993)

ARVIAT, Mother and Children, ca. mid-late 1970's

Green-grey stone

7.25 x 4 x 4.5 in, 18.4 x 10.2 x 11.4 cm

Signed in syllabics

Luke Hallauk's brother was Andy Miki, and his wife was Joy Kiluvigyuak (a.k.a. Joy Hallauk). The Hallauk's often carved together, even finishing each other's pieces sometimes, causing some confusion. Kiluvigyuak's reputation grew after Hallauk's death, and many pieces carved by him were probably misattributed to her as a result. The faces of Hallauk's figures tend to be somewhat broader than those of his wife's. This work is clearly signed by Luke Hallauk.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
