Ludlow Thorston was born in Irvington, NJ and was a graduate of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. After serving in the US Army during the Korean War he attended NYU where he ultimately earned his Master's Degree. He taught art in the public school system and owned and operated the Ludlow Thorston Gallery in New Jersey. The bulk of his work was done in watercolour. His pieces can be found in collections throughout North America.
