Saskatchewan NAC bio: Louise Walters was born in 1938 in Big River, Saskatchewan. She pursued her artistic education at the Winnipeg School of Fine Art, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1961. That same year, she attended the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania. Walters later attended workshops at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan, studying with Jules Olitski (1964) and Frank Stella (1967). Walters had significant involvement with Saskatoon's art community, working as an education officer for the Mendel Art Gallery (1970-1974), curator for The Little Gallery Under the Stairs (1972-1975), coordinator for the Mendel Art Gallery's community arts program (1975-1978), and exhibition coordinator for Shoestring Gallery (1978-1979). Walters' work includes pen and ink drawings as well as acrylic paintings. Her work has been exhibited across Saskatchewan and elsewhere in Canada since the early 1960s, most extensively in Saskatoon. Her paintings and drawings are represented in the collections of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina), and others. Louise Walters moved to Hornby Island, British Columbia, in 1988. There, she has been active with the Hornby Island Artist Run Gallery.
