Lizzie Saggiak (1924-1989)

Printmaker: Timothy Ottochie (1904-1982), Cape Dorset

Lynx, 1965 (Dorset Series), stonecut, 1/50, 19.25 x 23.75 in, 49 x 60.3 cm

Illustrated in James Houston's 1967 book Eskimo Prints. Here is Houston's account of Lizzie's seemingly odd choice of subject: "When she was small, her people killed a lynx during a caribou hunt on the vast inland plain of the Ungava. This strange, yellow eyed, catlike creature had strayed from the southern treeline. Lisi [sic] remembers wellthat it had long soft fur, pointed ears and strange clawed feet" (p. 84).
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
