Karel Safar was a Czech painter and graphic artist. In his youth he worked in Karlovy Vary as a resident architect. In 1965-1971 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the studio of Karel Svolinsky and since 1970 in the studio of Zdenek Sklenar. After his studies he travelled to Nepal and then to India, where he was a professor at the University of Benares.
