Born in France, Gabriel (Gabe) Gely was trained as a lithographer. He moved to Canada in the early 1950s, talking his way into a job as a cook at the weather station at Ennadai Lake, inland from Eskimo Point (Arviat). He spent several decades working and/or living in Arviat and other communities including Baker Lake, where he was crafts officer between 1963 and 1965. It was he who encouraged Oonark to make wall hangings, probably in 1963, and began the first printmaking experiments in the community.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
