Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Provenance:
Purchased directly from the Artist in Taiwan by the present Private Collector, Toronto
Notes:
In the mid-1970s, it was the humorous suggestion of Ju Ming's Master, Yang Yu-yu, that led Ming to study Tai Chi as a means to build his physical strength. The young artist was soon a devotee, and the balance and movement of Tai Chi became the creative centre of his unique style and his most recognized subject matter. His early Tai Chi wood sculptures caused a sensation at his 1976 solo exhibition at Taipei's National Museum of History. Planned to be a one-week show, it was extended for a year due to public demand.

This work was purchased at the same time as lot 112.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
