Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Provenance:
Private Collection, Ontario
Notes:
According to the expert on the works of John William Godward, Dr. Vern G. Swanson, this painting is probably a study for the 1908 oil An Egyptian Minstrel, sold by Messrs. Eugene Cremetti, London in 1908. It depicts a standing semi-nude slave girl playing a long-necked lute, and is technically similar to other small oil studies for other Godward paintings.

This work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the works of Godward being prepared by Dr. Vern G. Swanson.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
