Notes:
John Esler was born in Pilot Mound, MB in 1933. He received an Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1960 and a B.Ed. degree from the same school in 1962. He was an instructor of Printmaking and Drawing at the Alberta College of Art from 1964-68, and from 1968- 80 he was a professor of Printmaking and Drawing in the Art Department at the University of Calgary. He was an influential figure in Canadian printmaking, specifically in intaglio works, and helped raise the profile of printmaking in Alberta and Canada by expanding the printmaking department of the University of Calgary.
